Köppel AG, a Swiss contract manufacturer specializing in large components, swears by the reliability of an SHW travelling column machine.
The Wasseralfingen-based manufacturer of machine tools, SHW Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH (SHW WM), is continuing to implement its successful corporate strategy. The company, which was acquired by the Munich-based family office SFO in October 2018 and has been represented in Switzerland by Intool AG since 2019, has sold a PowerSpeed 4000 machine to Köppel AG in Berneck, Switzerland.
SHW WM’s solid business development continued in 2019. “We have achieved our goals,” says Martin Greis, Managing Director of the company. One indication of this is the sale of a PowerSpeed 4000 to the Swiss contract manufacturer Köppel AG, based in Berneck. The international nature of the business relationships has been an anchor of SHW WM’s success for decades. “In 2019, our export share was 60 percent,” explains Greis.
In Switzerland, Köppel has specialized in the machining of large parts. For reasons of cost pressure, the diamond drill bit production, which had long been the main focus, was relocated to Hungary seven years ago, where Köppel now employs around 20 people. “In the large parts production segment, the major challenges and at the same time the immense opportunities lie in the international nature of the market segment. With a highly valued Swiss franc and high wage costs, Köppel has to make a particular effort,” says Marcel Köppel.
